Announcing our partnership with The Childhood Trust

We are pleased to have entered into a multi-year partnership with The Childhood Trust focusing on the exceptional Transforming Spaces Programme.

The Transforming Spaces Programme aims to improve the lives of children living in unsuitable housing in the most deprived London boroughs, by transforming their bedrooms into safe spaces for sleep, study and play.

Despite London being the fifth wealthiest city in the world, thousands of children in the capital live in squalid and cramped conditions without basic essential items, severely impacting their healthy education, and overall well-being. Around 90,000 children in London are living in temporary accommodation and 11% of children share a bed or sleep on the floor. These figures highlight the urgent need for housing improvements and comprehensive support for affected families, and this why we feel it is essential to fund The Childhood Trust’s important work in this area.

Josephine McCartney, Chief Executive of The Childhood Trust, said:

We are incredibly grateful to the Kenora Charitable Foundation for their generous multi-year funding support, that will allow us to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of London’s vulnerable children. With so many children living in unspeakable conditions, our Transforming Spaces programme not only provides essential items such as beds, duvets and desks, but has an immensely positive impact on children’s mental wellbeing, feelings of safety and security, and relationships with family and friends.

With a goal to carry out around one Transforming Space project per week, The Childhood Trust will be helping hundreds of children across London. Feedback from one family highlights the many benefits of such projects – the charity recently completed bedroom renovations for a family: “The children are so much happier now,” they commented. “They have room to study, play and just be kids.”
